The initial lactation consultation includes the review of maternal and newborn health and birth histories, newborn oral assessment and inspection of mother’s breast anatomy, observation and appropriate assistance with a full feeding, assessment of milk transfer through pre and post weights, the discussion of all questions and challenges, and feeding plan. (2 hours)

The follow-up appointment will include a weight check of the baby, assessment and adjustment of the current feeding plan, observation and appropriate assistance with a full feeding, assessment of milk transfer through pre and post weights, and addressing all issues that may have come up after the initial visit. (90 mins)

Discuss the newborn feeding patterns, positioning and proper latch, milk expression and pumping, milk storage, common challenges, partner support, newborn growth expectations, flange sizing, and more. We will also review bottle-feeding including how often and how much, and practice with the Paced Bottle Feeding Method. (90 mins)

Learn what to expect with breastfeeding when returning to work, how to communicate pumping needs with your employer, techniques to maximize milk output with pumping, how to manage a freezer stash, and milk storage and warming guidelines. Ideally taken four-six weeks before your return to work. (60 mins - returning client, 90 mins - new client)  

Over 25 miles from Main Street Salado, TX requires an additional fee for home visits.  If you happen to be outside the service area, go ahead and reach out. We will let you know if we can come to you or not and a $40 travel fee may apply.
